ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Maureen Hourihan has lived most of her life on Cape Cod but grew up in a double-decker in Springfield, MA where she attended Catholic schools. She’s written short stories, a magazine column, and “Slow Train”, a moving and humorous three-act play performed by several Cape Cod theaters. She earned her MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults at Vermont College of Fine Arts, where an early version of Up So Floating won the Marion Dane Bauer Award.
Author Maureen Hourihan brings grace and wit to her debut novel, sure to delight middle-graders and grandparents alike.
Maureen has taught 3rd through 5th grade at Cape Cod public schools and home schooled her 7th grade son during a year spent sailing. Later, she tutored for many years at the Lightship Learning Center on Cape Cod. Upon request, Maureen will provide custom-developed
activity / ELA worksheets to fit the needs for a particular grade of student to accompany classroom use of Up So Floating as curriculum material.
